The Illustration:  Sports Icon for the regular SPORTS MEDICINE NEWS feature in the premier health magazine circulated in Lake County, Ohio, Best of Health, published and distributed by the Lake Hospital System's department for publications.

The Challenge:  Create an icon that is sports oriented, original or unique, that is immediately identifiable when combined with the features' headline, SPORTS MEDICINE NEWS, and that communicates visually that a multitude of sports are included. As the publication goes out during all seasons, colors chosen should not be colors that are identified in a reader's mind as being tied to a particular season, e.g., blue/white, often associated with winter skiing. Incorporating ideas or images that suggest action, activity, movement, balance, should be central to the entire image. Age or gender identification should not predominate or define the graphic to much of any degree, as all ages and both sexes are to be included in subject content of the articles. An icon that is distinctive and attention-grabbing is specifically called for.
