Organizational image makeover - organizational identity - branding:
BUSINESS: One local client came to me to get a different look and
feel to their business. He wasn't quite sure what was wrong with the image of
the business, but he thought something was somehow out of whack. While his
basic logo was all right, the style made it seem old and outdated - he
wanted a more modern feel. Having added several services to his main business,
these service areas had to be included but they didn't quite fit with his name and
logo. Also, over the years his name, logo, fonts, etc., had been produced in
several different colors, so there was a conflict between business cards, ads,
letterhead, invoices, signs, decals, etc.
We met and talked about his business,
what he believed he needed, and what he wanted, asking and answering questions.
After that, study, and coming up with design options that would give a more
modern feel, incorporate additional services, and be very consistent, the
cornerstone of any proper corporate/company identity. Designs, fonts, emphasis,
colors, all of these were worked up. The client chose one direction. "That's
what I like," he said. Then we went into finishing these, some going from hand
drawing to computer software, and then rendering all the images in different
formats. How is organizational identity projected? In all materials, such as:
business cards, letterhead, envelopes, signs, decals, a flyer for an upcoming
trade show, ads for various publications. We started with business cards with
the rest to come, and a major brochure makeover is up next to be done. "I really
like this," he said, "I should have done this a long time ago."
PROFESSIONAL (M.D.): A doctor came to me, a specialist, a physician
who was taking a more modern approach to his practice, and following ideas that
are emerging in the medical field about identity and using it to advantage. He
was changing his practice, and moving, too. "Can you do a logo for me? My cards
and materials?" I studied what existed in the field, and came up with four
workable logo designs, which was not all that easy. He picked one and we
finished it up, making several changes and adjustments in the process. We
chose colors. He now has new business and appointment cards, letterhead,
envelopes, prescription pads, fax cover sheets, and signs on his office doors.
Newspaper ads are to follow. They all match 100%.
"Nice work, Kristen! I really
appreciate what you've done. And a physician that I work closely with will be
contacting you in the near future to have you do a logo and other materials (for
them)."

Help when you need it - client relationships develop
I'm here to help when you need it. Some of my most successful clients
consider me as an extension of or part of their team. I'm always
included right from the start when a new product, service, offering,
or marketing direction is decided upon. Designs and projects flow more easily and
smoothly as a direct result of this ongoing involvement. Descriptions,
layouts, flyers, newsletters, ads, or other pieces applicable to the
project more naturally emerge. The more work I do for a client, the
more I get to know them and their operations, needs, and directions,
the easier, faster, and more economically these are created. After a
while it's like a hand slipping into a glove. There is great value, both
ways, in that kind of relationship. It works. Savings are substantial,
and even the quality increases because of the increased or more in-depth knowledge of the client's operations,
as well as experience.
